Collaborate is an area of work that allows Serendipity the opportunity to work along side other organisation and artist in partnership to produce and promote new pieces of work. To date the collaborations have been across a number of different art form areas such as dance, music, and carnival arts and with companies and artists such as Dance4, Philip Herbert, and Mahogany.

Ballare: To Dance — Philip Herbert

Ballare: To Dance was commissioned for the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad in the East Midlands, celebrating internationalism and the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games for which Pawlet Brookes; Artistic Director of Serendipity was the Creative Producer. It takes audiences on a musical journey around the world, crossing the African Diaspora, Argentina, Cuba, Mexico, India and Spain with a colourful soundscape of classical music scores, seasoned with strong world music flavours. In this programme two new works were featured, including a Suite for Solo Steel Pan and Strings which was modelled on the Baroque dance suite, but reinvented to include contemporary dances from the Caribbean and further afield within the African Diaspora.  The other new work was entitled, Mantra for an Athlete, which connects with the sound world of India, fused with strains of music from the Western world and was inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Timescale Ensemble, formed of leaders and section principals from the major orchestras such as the Philharmonia, the Royal Philharmonic, the London Philharmonic, the BBC Concert Orchestra and the Berlin Staadkapell Opera Orchestra, as well as established soloists, performed in this project. Lee Payne (of Sky TV’s Got to Dance) added his nimble footwork to the score, as another layer of percussion to the performance.

Follow the Light — Mahogany

3 Cities, 3 towns, over 650 people aged from 10 to 65, all working together as one team to celebrate the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay and the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympics Games. Skegness, Lincoln, Nottingham, Derby, Leicester and Loughborough (home town of Team GB) – in each we produced a spectacular, colourful carnival that reflected the rich diversity of the region with djembe and dhol drummers alongside young and old people dancing in the streets.
