On Thursday 5 May, A Ballerina’s Tale: Misty Copeland will have it’s UK premiere at Phoenix Cinema, Leicester.
It is a documentary featuring the career of African-American ballerina Misty Copeland and her journey to being lead role in Igor Stravinsky’s Firebird for American Ballet Theatre.
This feature film presents audiences with behind-the-scenes grit of the dance industry and questions the rigidity and legitimacy of the aesthetics of traditional ballet.
It has been getting rave reviews and was awarded best documentary from the African American Film Critics Association.
US citizens have even been spotted taking selfies with the posters and billboards, showing their support for Copeland’s achievements within the Black and Dance communities.
