Masterclasses with Lee Payne
Masterclasses are an opportunity for participants to gain an insight into Lee Payne’s unique style. Payne is renowned as a foot percussionist, and participants will gain an insight into the foundation of his technique tap funk fusion, historical connections and some of the collaborations his work has inspired, from Ballare: To Dance, with composer Philip Herbert, to Tap and Tabla a partnership with Rishii Chowdhury. The sessions will give participants tools to generate their own movement and choreography, increasing confidence and creativity. Combining a vast variety of influences from jazz, soul, funk and swing, Payne’s workshop sessions also provides a unique context for exploring and practising tap dance. Participants will gain knowledge of rhythmic concepts, intricate footwork and grounded movement.
Lee is a graduate of the Millennium Performing Arts College. His musical theatre credits include Riverdance, Singing In The Rain and Magic of The Dance, whilst his theatre credits include Bouncers, Jeckyl and Hyde, One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest and Hamlet. Lee has many television credits to his name include Top Of The Pops and The Des O’Conner Show as well as numerous broadcasts of his Riverdance performance on television stations all over the world. In 2012, he appeared on Sky1’s Got to Dance.
