Claudine Carter Pereira, MS, CLPE was born and raised in The Bahamas, aspired to become a prima ballerina. She put her dance career on the “back-burner” to pursue a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Loyola University in Maryland and Master of Science degree in Forensic Science from Virginia Commonwealth University.  Carter Pereira began her career in 1997 with the Baltimore City Police Department, as a Crime Laboratory Technician. In 1999, she was hired by the Broward Sheriff’s Office as a Latent Print Examiner and was promoted to Latent Print Unit Manager in 2004.  With her promotion in 2014 to Crime Laboratory Director, she became not only the first female Crime Lab Director in the 50-year history of the Broward Sheriff’s Office Crime Laboratory, but also the first Black Crime Lab Director in the state of Florida.

In 2025, Carter Pereira was voted President Elect for the American Society of Crime Lab Directors, the first Black person in the organisation’s fifty-year history.  Carter Pereira has continued as both a teaching and performing artist. She has performed as a soloist with the South Broward Ballet Company in Don Quixote, Nutcracker, Peter and the Wolf, Sleeping Beauty and the principal role in Cinderella and was the Assistant Artistic Director of Jubilee Dance Theatre.  Carter Pereira serves on the Board for the
Developing Dreams Foundation and is a member of the International Association of Blacks in Dance. She is a teaching artist in ballet, Horton, Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT), jazz and tap.
