Black Leaders Awareness Day (BLAD) is observed annually on 18 July for the celebration and recognition of Black Leaders throughout history and in contemporary society.

Coinciding with Nelson Mandela’s birthday, the day serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggles for racial equality and aims to inspire future generations of leaders to be rooted in justice and resilience.

Individuals and organisations can participate in BLAD through education of the contributions and lives of Black leaders, using social media to share achievements of Black leaders, supporting Black-owned businesses, organising or attending events such as lectures, panels or community gatherings, and much more.

Black Leaders Awareness Day is a crucial observance that both encourages continued dialogue concerning leadership and social justice and honours the past.  By participating, you can contribute to a greater appreciation and understanding of Black leadership and its impact on society.   

Black Leaders Awareness Day shines a light on Black leaders from all walks of life making a difference and inspiring change.
