Digital Black Dance Ecologies – Artists Seed Commission

Seed Commission # 2

In collaboration with Serendipity, Unwired Studio, and Clémence Debaig

Digital Black Dance Ecologies in collaboration with Serendipity, Unwired Studio, and Clémence Debaig  are commissioning a digital dance piece that explores the relationship between traditional and embodied technologies and digital technologies.

Themes of the commission could include but are not limited to:

  • Spiritual Realms
  • Journeying
  • Time Travel
  • Ancient and future dance forms and practice
  • Myths
  • Folk music

This commissioned piece might use digital technologies in part in collaboration with live performance elements or in whole. The final commissioned piece will be exhibited during the Digital Black Dance Ecologies Arts Evening at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in March 2025 and across Serendipity’s platforms

The successful artist will be invited to an in-person 3-day intensive playground with mentor Clémence Debaig and three digital technologists to workshop their creative vision. This playground will be a chance to begin exploring your concept, and a chance to match with a creative technologist to move forward with. The artist will then be offered up to five additional days with their chosen creative technologist, a project budget of £1000, and a fee of £1000 on completion of the commission.

Who Should Apply

We invite UK-based Black dance artists with experience leading their own projects to apply for this commission and take their artistic practice in a new direction. We seek an innovative and interesting concept that resonates with the themes outlined in the call.

The successful artist must be available all day on the 4th July 2024 – 6th July 2024 for the in-person 3-day intensive playground.

The successful candidate will be responsible for their own travel and accommodation for the duration of the commission.
